Clay 1: Beginner (Session 1) Thursday
Thursday Afternoons, 6:30pm – 8:30pm

This class is for students experiencing clay for the first time, or for those who desire a refresher course. Students will gain basic foundations in both wheelthrowing and handbuilding skills.Â
Wheelthrowing topics include wedging, centering, shaping, and trimming. Handbuilding topics teach use of studio equipment– slab roller, extruder, tools and textures-pinch, and coil. Students are also presented with aesthetic considerations, simple glazing techniques, and studio safety.
Clay is purchased at the studio.Â

Jo-Alice StockwellInstructorJo-Alice has been working with clay for 30+ years at various North Shore studios. What started as a hobby while raising a family and working as a pastry chef became her main focus: a passion for teaching and creating with clay. Much of Jo-Alice’s work is functional waste but she also enjoys producing saggar and experimenting with other alternative firing techniques. Jo-Alice has a wide variety of clay experience to share and has taught with many beginners to advanced students to find enjoyment and creativity in clay.
